Local resident makes improving community a fine art

Artist Blog / August 7, 2016

John Cutruzzola, an artist based in Brampton, Ontario, knows that art is much more than just something to casually observe.

As a visual artist and classic singer, John believes that art and culture are the signs of a healthy and vibrant community. To him, art lifts the spirit of the community in celebration of unity and pride.

To support our local artists in the area, John is proud to announce the First Annual LIVE ART COMPETITION for all artists in Ontario on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Local business and sponsor, Inzola will supply a standard 16 x 20-inch canvas to each participant. However, artists are responsible for supplying their own materials. At registration time artists can choose their own location to paint. At 1 p.m. artists will deliver their paintings to the designated judging area. At 4 p.m. the judges will announce the winners. First prize is $1,000, second prize is $500, and third prize is $200. The competition is being sponsored by PAMA, Rose Theatre, Inzola, Beaux Arts, Baci Gifts, and Downtown Brampton B.I.A.  For registration and further details visit downtownbramptonbia.ca/events. or The Arts of John Cutruzzola – Events The registration Fee is $25.

Not only can a piece of art elevate a city to the world stage, but it can help breathe life into an area in decline. John points to number of cities that have succeeded in their revival effort through arts endeavors in North America. The Live Art Competition is the perfect way to bring together strong arts community..

Another way a community can show support for the arts is in the streets, parks, and courtyards. While many of his works are displayed at his studio, John recognizes the importance of strengthening Brampton’s identity through public and artist events. This was evident in his desire to convert the city’s old jailhouse into the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (originally known as the Jail and the Court Peel Heritage Complex). He also sponsored the development of the City Hall building downtown and Brampton’s Rose Theatre — the latter is where he has performed as a tenor many times.

Not only does John practise the artistic skills he honed when he was younger, he also helps to boost others in the community by encouraging them to shine through their own talents for over 25 years John sponsored the Art Gallery of Peel and Art Councilors.

Community spirit has been recognized through numerous awards, including being named Citizen of the Year. His local contributions continue through his fundraising efforts to support many arts and charitable organizations. When he’s not involved in a community-building project, John is continually adding to his collection of visual art, inspired by his surroundings. You can see the works in person at his studio located at 105 Heart Lake Road in Brampton and many of his works are displayed at Baci Gifts and Art Gallery. As well, John’s work can be found in many prestigious homes and offices.  For more information, contact 416-706-3660 or 416-606-2681 or send an email to info@theartsofjohncutruzzola.com
